African aesthetics – whether tribal patterns, the African landscape or traditional ethnic art – have long inspired our make-up, wardrobes and homes. Here we’ve created fabulous do’s for our ladies that reflect our heritage, as well as the here and now.
BUSI MANUNGA, BEAUTY ASSISTANT
INSPIRATION: Cleopatra’s wig
Renowned for her beauty – including her lustrous bob – this legendary Egyptian queen remains an icon. Ancient Egyptians were known to wear wigs to enhance their looks and protect their natural hair. Here we’ve enhanced the look with this season’s must-have hair trend: faux locks.

KOKETSO MATLOPURO, JUNIOR DIGITAL ASSISTANT DESIGNER
INSPIRATION: The feathers used by the Dassenach tribe of Sudan
The Dassenach are known for their ingenious way of creating jewellery from objects like bottle-tops and feathers, which they then pierce into their chins. Accordingly, we’ve created a hairstyle inspired by the black and white shades one would find blended into a bird’s feather.
